Starting A Blog
If you're seeing this then hello! As of today, I will be doing a soft rebrand (new logos and themes) and starting a blog on my website. This may be shocking to some people since I have historically been documenting my projects via YouTube, Twitter, and Reddit. However, I have chosen to write blogs here for a few reasons.
Less Pressure
Something I've struggled with as a game developer, and a person in general, is setting expectations that are unreachable. When uploading devlogs, I started to develop a habit of adding stuff to my projects at the expense of polishing what I've already made. This, admittedly, is no one's fault but my own, but having a YouTube audience would make me feel a lot of pressure to make sure viewers were engaged. Having a platform that's objectively smaller makes it a little easier to talk about a lot more because I don't have to worry about likes and viewership.
Blogs Are Less Intensive
As of the making of this blog, I have released two games that have no devlogs on my YouTube channel. While I do plan on covering them eventually, the reason I've taken so long to make those videos comes from the process being a lot more time-consuming than one may think. I am the only one running Acro Projects, so I have to do EVERYTHING. The script writing, the voice readings, the video editing, sound editing, etc. Balancing video editing with game development is very challenging. Blogging has a lot fewer steps since I only have to focus on writing. So, I'm hoping to be more active with this new platform.
More Freedom Of What To Talk About
This sorta goes alongside the first point, where it was difficult to talk about things outside of the projects I've recently shown. It's difficult to talk about other projects due to some people having the expectation that this is the only project I am working on. Throughout my time away, I've been expanding my knowledge in game development (messing with new engines, learning different coding patterns, etc). A lot of what I've learned and want to talk about can't easily be discussed without changing my intended audience. I don't think a lot of people would be interested in me talking about color matrices, so this could be a good outlet for that sort of content.
These are the main reasons why I chose to start this blog. Does that mean I'll stop making videos? No. Again, I'm working on videos for some games I've recently made. However, I will definitely be posting here more frequently than on my other platforms in the future. I'm not sure how frequent, but I know I do plan to post another blog next week about some of the projects I've been working on during my time away. So be on the lookout for that!
Also, expect a lot of typos in the future. I'm a computer science major, not an English major.
